Hawaii Theatre Center✨

The Hawaii Theatre Center is a non-profit organization that operates the historic 1922 "Landmark of the Arts" in downtown Honolulu, serving as a premier performance venue and a catalyst for neighborhood revitalization. Established in 1984, the center hosts a broad range of entertainment, including concerts, comedy, and theater, while delivering community arts education programs.

Volunteer Project:  Hawaii Theatre Center is requesting volunteers to support HTC's ongoing mission to preserve and activate one of Hawaiʻi's most significant historic cultural assets as part of the Hawaii Theatre's ongoing restoration project by painting the exterior storefronts of HTC's Nu'uanu offices. A well-maintained, graffiti-resistant exterior sends a clear message to the community that HTC is an anchor institution that takes pride in its home and its neighborhood.

Volunteers participating in this project will leave knowing their effort has made a visible, lasting contribution to the cultural and physical fabric of Downtown Honolulu. HTC staff will have completed all necessary surface preparation and priming of the wood prior to the event, and paint colors will be selected and secured in advance, so volunteers can focus entirely on applying paint efficiently and safely. This project is estimated to take about 4 hours for a team of five+ volunteers and requires no specialized skills, only a willingness to roll up your sleeves and help preserve a treasured community institution.

Volunteers will also assist in applying a graffiti-resistant protective coating to the exterior wall of HTC's Rangoon Building, using the same high-quality product currently used on the historic theatre itself. This proactive measure will help protect the building's exterior from vandalism, reduce long-term maintenance costs, and keep the surrounding streetscape clean and welcoming for the Nu'uanu community.
