Volunteer Project: We are preparing to open the VolunteerAlly Swap Store at the Walter Dods Jr. RISE Center across from UH Mānoa and are looking for volunteers to help bring this space to life. UH students face widespread basic needs insecurity. According to a 2025 University of Hawaiʻi System report, 1 in 4 experience clothing insecurity specifically, with 1 in 10 having missed class because of it. Meanwhile, Americans discard around 112 pounds of clothing and textiles per person each year. The Swap Store keeps donated goods (clothing, school supplies, small household items) in circulation, turning what would be waste into a resource for students who need it most. This is a great opportunity to be part of a new campus initiative that promotes sustainability, community sharing, and student support.
Volunteers will assist with:
• Sorting and organizing donated items
• Cleaning
• Decorating
• Arranging displays
• Creating signage
• Contributing creative ideas to make the space welcoming, functional, and student-friendly.
• Inventory organization
• Folding and categorizing items
• Helping establish an efficient system for future donations and swaps
