Moving Day! 

Participate in the "Making Housing into Homes with Journey Home!" volunteer opportunity, aimed at raising public awareness of the challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness. In partnership with Journey Home, we aim to support those transitioning to stable housing in our community. Journey Home is a dedicated agency focused on ending homelessness and assisting those in need.

Project Description:

Volunteers will be picking up and/or delivering furniture to folks moving out of homelessness and into housing. For deliveries, volunteers will help load our box truck at our warehouse, and then follow the truck to the delivery destinations to move the items into our clients' apartments. Depending on the clients' requests, volunteers may be setting up beds, putting together tables, or simply moving a couch and other items into a home.  For pick-ups, the volunteers will follow our box truck to various locations and load the donations into the truck, then unload at the warehouse. The destinations for deliveries and pickups are in and around the general Hartford area. These activities involve moving furniture, some of which can be heavy, but volunteers should never have to move a piece on their own (unless it's small, such as a lamp or box of linens). Our volunteers work together to support each other in making sure the day goes smoothly and safely!  We may also need a bit of assistance organizing the furniture items in our warehouse before and/or after the activities, depending on timing.

***Volunteers will need their own transportation to follow our box truck to the various destinations in and around Hartford.
