2026 Read Across America Day

We’re excited to invite you to participate in Read Across America Day on Tuesday, March 2, 2027. Volunteers will read "Brave Like a Lion! How a Puppeteer Found Her Voice" by Megan Piphus to elementary school students in classrooms across six districts.

Please register for your desired district on the next page. Volunteer opportunities are available in Windham, Hartford, East Hartford, Bloomfield, Bristol, and New Britain. Please note that meeting locations, school assignments, and volunteer arrival times vary by district. Be sure to review the details for the specific district you select when registering.

If you have just a few hours to spare, this is the perfect opportunity for you! United Way is looking for volunteers to read to classrooms across the city to close literacy gaps and create opportunities for children to succeed in school and beyond. Together, we are United to End Poverty.

Here is an image of the book below, along with a link to preview it. You do not need to purchase the book, as copies will be provided on the day of the event!
